The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum Presents the Art & Leadership Student Show at Santa Fe Community College

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE–July 24, 2026 (Santa Fe, NM)–The Art & Leadership Program (A&L) at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum will present its annual Art Show on Friday, August 7, at the Santa Fe Community College (SFCC) Visual Arts Gallery with an opening celebration from 5:00 PM–7:00 PM.

“Every year, the Art & Leadership Art Show showcases the creativity of our students and reflects the dedication of our staff, interns, teaching artists, and community partners,” said Grace Almanza, Manager of Youth and Family Learning at the Museum. “It’s more than an art show—it’s a celebration of creativity and collaboration. We’re especially grateful to Santa Fe Community College Visual Arts Gallery for its continued partnership, support, and expertise. Their commitment helps make this meaningful experience possible for our students.

The show will feature student work created during the camp, including ceramic mirrors, fused glass nightlight, hand-sewn dolls created to represent each student’s identity, recycled textile clothing, batik dye pieces, and more. These sessions were led by community partners and teaching artists from the Santa Fe area: we.grow.eco, Amber Paz-Csibi, Amy Parrish, Gasali Adeymo, Oriana Lee, and Chantel West.

This year, the program also explored themes from the Museum’s current exhibition, Tewa Nangeh/Tewa Country. The exhibition brings O’Keeffe’s paintings and personal objects into dialogue with newly created works by contemporary Tewa artists. The Museum’s Luce Curator of Art and Social Practice, Bess Murphy, and the exhibition co-curator, Jason Garcia led the students through the exhibition before a series of art activities that encouraged reflection on caring for natural resources, exploring personal identity, fostering a sense of place, and celebrating culture.

The Art & Leadership Program, now in its 28^th year, is a free week-long summer camp for middle school youth. The program was created as an homage to Georgia O’Keeffe’s lifelong passion for education and learning. The program is designed to address the gap in artistic development between elementary and high school while focusing on independent thinking, building self-esteem, and strengthening self-respect. Museum staff, program leaders, interns, and teaching artists lead the program, offering children an oasis of positive support and encouragement. The Museum thanks Century Bank and the Aileen S. Andrew Foundation for their support of the program.

The SFCC Visual Arts Gallery is in the Fine Arts Center on campus, 6401 Richards Ave in Santa Fe. The Art and Leadership Student Art Show will be available for public viewing Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM through September 2, 2026.
