Join us for the opening of Place/Holding, a mobile art exhibition by Brian Fleetwood (Muscogee Creek) in the Railyard (1612 Alcaldesa St, Santa Fe, NM 87501)!

Fleetwood, a Santa Fe resident, artist, and faculty member of the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA), is the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum’s first Mobile Artist in Residence. After several months of collaboration with the Axle Contemporary mobile artspace and the Museum’s Art to G.O. truck, Fleetwood creatively repurposed single-use plastics collected from communities into jewelry and wearable art. The project’s culminating exhibition, Place/Holding hosted by Axle Contemporary, emphasizes inclusivity and highlights the transformative potential of art.

Cottonwood trees are rendered abstractly in this work. Bright, soft patches of yellow and green, which represent foliage, are highlighted by sharper white lines. The brown trunk and branches are slightly visible beneath the yellow/green leaves. Bits of blue sky peek through the leaves in the upper half of the work.
