Art to G.O. Truck Ready to Hit the Road
The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum’s New Mobile Creativity Studio will Soon Visit Communities Statewide
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE–APRIL 10, 2023 (Santa Fe, NM)–The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum is ready to hit the road. The Art to G.O. Truck will make its debut on Sunday, May 14 at the Museum’s Family Fun Day from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM., in the parking lot of the Education Annex (123 Grant Ave.).
Wrapped in an O’Keeffe-inspired motif of clouds and landscape, the Art to G.O. Truck— G.O. are Georgia O’Keeffe’s initials—is a custom-fabricated mobile creativity studio bringing free art activities to libraries, community centers, schools, parks, senior centers, and festivals throughout New Mexico.
“We are thrilled to get the Art to G.O. Truck on the road,” said Jenna Wixson, the Museum’s Director of Learning and Engagement. “Georgia O’Keeffe found the extraordinary in everyday life, painting simple items like doors or flowers in different ways. Taking O’Keeffe’s inspiring story into the everyday lives of more New Mexicans can inspire extraordinary creativity from youth and adults who have yet to visit the Museum.”
The Art to G.O. Truck expands the Museum’s mission to celebrate the art, life, and independent spirit of Georgia O’Keeffe across the state. Each year, the Museum hosts thousands of students through field trips and even more visitors to the Galleries and Home & Studio, but the Art to G.O. Truck will allow the Museum to reach audiences within their own communities.
“Getting the Art to G.O. truck on the road is just the first step in fostering new relationships with communities across the state,” said Chicle Corcoles, Manager of Community Engagement for the Museum. “It’s exciting to think about students and art teachers hours away from Santa Fe who can’t always make the long trip to the Museum, but the truck gives us the opportunity to come up with new methods to support the great work of teachers and schools around the state.”
The Art to G.O. Truck is made possible by generous gifts from Bank of America, the Humphreys Family Foundation, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, Thornburg Investment Management, and individual donors.
