O’Keeffe Art & Leadership Annual Art Show Opening Night

Art & Leadership is the flagship summer art program for middle school youth at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Every year, Art & Leadership concludes with a professional art exhibition in celebration of the work created by young artists throughout the summer. Join us to celebrate this summer’s young artists and their fantastic creations! This year’s exhibition will include work involving various media such as paintings, illustrations, sculpture, ceramics, fused glass, and so much more!

This event is open to the public and free to attend. The exhibition will be up until September 2, 2026, with gallery hours operating Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM.

The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum Art & Leadership Program was founded in 1998 to facilitate the development of self-confidence, self-esteem, leadership skills, and self-expression in middle school girls. Today, the Art & Leadership Program is gender inclusive, providing a more diverse, well-rounded, and comprehensive experience to all participants.  

The Art & Leadership Program focuses on the exploration of creativity through artmaking, theater, music, creative writing, and self-expression.

Participants learn collectively with a focus on independent thinking, building self-esteem, and strengthening self-respect. Professional Museum staff, program leaders, interns, and teaching artists experienced in art education lead the program and serve as role models, offering children an oasis of positive support and encouragement. Together, they can better learn about moving past preconceived notions and growing into young adults who are comfortable and confident in their self-expression.     

The program’s main initiative is to foster young artists through creativity, leadership skills, self-confidence, self-expression, and identity development.
