Join artist Devon Burke for an exploration of objects found in the life and studio of Georgia O’Keeffe which inspired her nature-based works. Participants will have an exclusive tour of the museum focused on discussing works and items that inspired the daily work of O’Keeffe’s up close and well-studied paintings. Students will then head to the classroom for drawing exercises that will study some of these found items from observation, taking inspiration from O’Keeffe’s practice. This course will offer the application and study of introductory and intermediate drawing techniques in creating a still life work.

About the instructor:

Instructor Devon Burke returned to Santa Fe after years away in Worcester, Massachusetts. She earned an MFA from Boston University in Art Education with a concentration in Art Therapy practice in the art classroom, and a BFA in Art Education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Devon taught art for eight years in Massachusetts public schools, and has taught beginning, intermediate, and advanced courses in painting to adults. Her main media of study is watercolor, specifically small landscape and plein air painting.
