Online Class: Intermediate Watercolor Landscapes

  • Tuesday, August 30
  • 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM MT
  • Virtual

Space is limited, reservations required.

Join artist Devon Burke and the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum as we explore watercolor techniques utilized to paint mini natural landscapes of the southwest. In this intermediate painter level course we will walk you through color matching, highlighting, shading, and detailing smaller sized works depicting scenes of O’Keeffe’s most loved areas of New Mexico. In the first hour, participants will be shown a live O’Keeffe inspired landscape painting by the instructor with tips and guidance for working both in small format and with watercolor detail. In the second hour participants will be given the opportunity to an open studio working experience to either begin a landscape of personal choice or to further develop the example provided from the instructor demonstration. Devon will be available for small windows of instruction to guide your work and provide feedback.

Materials needed for the class include: watercolor paints, round paintbrush, and watercolor or drawing paper.

Instructor Devon Burke recently returned to Santa Fe after years away in Worcester, Massachusetts. She earned an MFA from Boston University in Art Education with a concentration in Art Therapy practice in the art classroom, and a BFA in Art Education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Devon taught art for eight years in Massachusetts public schools, and has taught beginning courses in painting to adults. Her main media of study is watercolor, specifically small landscape and plein air painting. Devon enjoys the delicate nature and transparency of watercolor, and has a strong passion for sharing her love of it with others.

This class is suitable for youth ages 12 and up. Children are welcome to participate alongside their adults.

This discussion will take place via the video conferencing app – ZOOM. Details for accessing the Zoom meeting will be with your receipt upon registering and again sent via email the day prior. Please register in advance in order to access the program.
