Explore how to form an image in ink inspired by the principles of painter and printmaker Arthur Wesley Dow, whose approach to design, composition, and expression played a critical role in Georgia O’Keeffe’s artistic development.
This class will focus specifically on the use of “notan,” a Japanese term for light-dark harmony that Dow considered to be a vital element for creating compositional balance. With guidance from instructor Gal Senderowitsch, participants will dive into this principle in order to achieve harmony, interest, and character in their own work.
This class is suitable for all levels, from beginner to advanced.
Supplies needed for this class:
Ruler
Black India ink
Assorted ink brushes
Dip pen with nibs
Pencil
White gum eraser
Bristol or watercolor paper (hot press or smooth preferred, but not mandatory).

This class is suitable for youth ages 12 and up. Children are welcome to participate alongside their adults.
Space is limited, reservations required.
This program will take place via the video conferencing app – ZOOM. Details for accessing the Zoom meeting will be with your receipt upon registering and again sent via email the day prior. Please register in advance in order to access the program.
