Love Story in Letters
Host Mara Harris, Communications Manager at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, is in conversation with Cody Hartley, Senior Director of Collections and Interpretation at the Museum, about Georgia O’Keeffe’s and Alfred Stieglitz’s epic love story.
Through their voluminous correspondence over the course of their 30-year relationship, we see a new side of both of these famous artists, and their passionate commitment to art, intellectual discourse, and each other, even as they negotiated inevitable ups and downs. O’Keeffe famously said, “Words and I are not close friends”, yet between them, they wrote more than 25,000 pages of letters that are intense, passionate, spontaneous, honest, and intensely alive.
The book referenced in the podcast is My Faraway One, Selected Letters of Georgia O’Keeffe and Alfred Stieglitz, Volume 1, edited by Sarah Greenough. Yale University Press, 2011.
