In-Person Class: Coffee or Tea? Hand-built Ceramic Mug Workshop

Start your morning by learning how to create ceramic mugs inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe’s New Mexico landscapes. Coffee and tea will be provided to get the creative juices flowing.

In this 3-hour class, teaching artist Amber Paz-Csibi will demonstrate how to use the slab technique to build functional mugs and how to decorate surfaces using layers of underglaze. By the end of class, participants will have created at least one decorated mug, but could finish as many as four.

NOTE: The mugs created in this class will need to dry and undergo two firings by Amber after the workshop. They will be ready for pick-up at the Museum after two weeks.

This class is suitable for youth ages 12 and up. Children are welcome to participate alongside their adults.

This class will meet in front of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum , 217 Johnson Street, Santa Fe, NM. Registrants will be notified 24 hours in advance if the lesson is to be canceled.

About the Instructor:

Amber Paz-Csibi is a local art educator with over 15 years of teaching experience in New Mexico. She has a master’s degree and studied art, science and education at the University of Texas in San Antonio, and New Mexico Highlands University. She truly enjoys teaching and is inspired by her students’ creative process. Amber is also a member of the New Mexico Potters and Clay Artists organization. As an artist, she creates art using a variety of media. She especially loves working with clay and fused glass. Her art process embraces form and function ranging from functional pottery to fused glass jewelry.
