Press Release

The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum to Reopen in September

September 1, 2020

The Museum will be open to the public on Friday, September 25, 2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—September 1, 2020 (Santa Fe, NM)— The Georgia
O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico, will reopen in September. The Museum closed in
March in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Museum will reopen to the public on
September 25, 2020. O’Keeffe Museum members will have early access to the site for previews
on September 19, 20, 21, and 24. The Museum’s sites in Abiquiú, New Mexico, will remain
closed.

“We’ve really missed our visitors,” says Cody Hartley, Director of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. “All of us at the O’Keeffe look forward to welcoming back the public, and sharing the immediate, positive experience of being with art in-person.” Hartley adds, “This summer we conducted a survey among potential visitors to best understand their concerns and needs. We will follow the state’s COVID-safe practices, and are in the process of adjusting procedures to meet the audience’s expectations for a safe, welcoming visit.”

Following the public opening, the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum will operate 10:00 a.m. to 4:00
p.m., Thursdays through Mondays. The Museum will be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. In
accordance with state guidelines, the Museum will have reduced capacity. Advanced ticket
purchases for time-specific visits will be mandatory. General admission tickets will be $20, and
free for members. Staff and visitors will be required to wear masks at all times.
Says Hartley, “We will have a limited number of people inside at each scheduled time, and we
expect this to have many positive benefits for visitors. The Museum is not a labyrinth; it provides
an intimate experience, and you can really take your time with the artwork. Instead of weaving
through crowds, people will be able to really enjoy a personal experience with Georgia
O’Keeffe’s art in an almost meditative way. Right now, people are yearning to be out, take a
mental vacation, and get in touch with beauty and creativity. We’re so happy that we’ll be able to
offer this.”

Timed tickets will soon be available for purchase on the Museum’s website, gokm.org.
