Georgia O’Keeffe Museum to Celebrate Topping Off the New O’Keeffe

March 31, 2026

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE–March 31, 2026–(Santa Fe, NM)–The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum will celebrate the topping off of the New O’Keeffe on Monday, April 6, at 9:00 AM at 123 Grant Avenue, the site of the 54,000 square foot building that will anchor a one-acre campus in the heart of historic, downtown Santa Fe. The topping off ceremony will mark the completion of the steel work phase and the beginning of the exterior construction phase of the New O’Keeffe, which is expected to open in 2028.

“The topping off ceremony is the latest milestone for the New O’Keeffe. It is an important moment for our construction partners, who are all local to New Mexico, generous donors to the project, and the Santa Fe community as a whole. As the building takes shape, becoming a visible sign of growth and progress, we become more and more excited for what is to come in 2028,” Museum Director, Cody Hartley, said.

The exterior construction phase of the New O’Keeffe will include the placement of more than 40,000 adobe bricks, created in partnership with Avanyu General Contracting, an indigenous-female-owned company from the Pueblo of San Ildefonso. Other partners on the project include development management firm JenkinsGavin, DNCA architectural firm, construction company Bradbury Stamm, landscape architect Reed Hilderbrand, the Pueblo of Tesuque, the City of Santa Fe, and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Fundraising for the $75 million building is 96% complete, thanks to the generosity of 114 individuals and organizations. This support includes a $750,000 matching challenge grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and a grant from the Frankenthaler Climate Initiative.

The New O’Keeffe will include 13,000 square feet of gallery space and 22,000 square feet below ground for collections storage and care. The Museum will be surrounded by nearly an acre of community green space on the 100 block of Grant Avenue in the historic downtown Santa Fe Plaza District.
