A Powerful Place
Mobile Artists in Residence | Autumn 2025
A Powerful Place seeks to consider the role “place” plays in our individual lives by acknowledging and honoring the experiences of the people who surround us. Led by Kieran Sequoia, A Powerful Place invites participants across Santa Fe/O’ga P’ogeh Owingeh and surrounding areas to create 9×9-inch textile squares as part of a larger piece. Each square is inspired by the landscapes, weather, and personal symbolism to tell the visual story of the place that has made participants feel most powerful.
Alongside their visual representation, participating artists will have the opportunity to record a three-minute audio story of their most powerful place. Workshops are open to all members of the community, with specific emphasis on creating space for and recognizing the unhoused community.
About the Artist

Kieran Sequoia
Kieran is most interested in the stories of the people who surround her. As a child, she observed her community in East Vancouver, being mentored by people from all walks of life.
She had the privilege of studying theatre at the College of Santa Fe and continued her love for storytelling as a performer and behind the scenes in film and television production.
During the pandemic, Kieran returned to school and followed her curiosity into science, earning her license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
She likes red chile, scissors, and laughing at things that make no sense. At the end of her life, Kieran wants to feel that she learned as much as she could, engaged with as many people as were willing, and did what she could every day to make her community a little more wonderful. Kieran is currently the program director for Unhoused Art, a Vital Spaces program.
A Powerful Place is led by Kieran Sequoia in partnership with the Georgia O’Keeffe Museums Mobile-Artist-in-Residence (MAiR) program and supported by Vital Spaces.
