Family Fun Day: From My Head, To-Ma-Toes!

  • Sunday, June 11
  • 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM MT
  • Santa Fe, NM

Join us to celebrate the art of gardening through a variety of hands-on artmaking, creative activities, and story time in our very own Research Center Garden!

Georgia O’Keeffe loved to garden. She would grow everything from beautiful flowers to grand apricot trees to delicious vegetables! The fruits and vegetables that O’Keeffe grew in her garden would then make their way to the meals she would prepare in her kitchen. In many countries and cultures, designing beautiful gardens is treated as a fine art. In Japan, for instance, Zen monks created Japanese gardens. In Europe in the 1700s, kings and queens had formal gardens built. Join us to celebrate the art of gardening through a variety of hands-on artmaking, creative activities, and story time in our very own Research Center Garden!

The painting depicts a close-up view of a single black iris, with its intricate petals and stamen prominently displayed. The dark background contrasts with the bright white of the flower, creating a striking and dramatic effect. O'Keeffe's use of color and form creates a sense of abstraction, while the realism of the flower maintains a strong sense of naturalism.
