Flowers fascinated Georgia O’Keeffe and they were a repeated subject on canvas in oil and on paper in pastels. Her paintings show that she was drawn to particular flowers—the calla lily, iris, petunia, jimson weed, canna lilies, and lush, red poppies.

Throughout the artistic world, red flowers have represented many things, and pastels are especially well suited to rendering such a vibrant color. This class will start with a brief overview of Georgia O’Keeffe’s red flower paintings and will then turn to an interactive demo of pastels. Participants will learn how to underpaint with pastel and alcohol, how to define large shapes and tones, and how to develop vibrant color and harmony through layering.

This class is suitable for youth ages 12 and up. Children are welcome to participate alongside their adults.

Space is limited, reservations required.

This program will take place via the video conferencing app – ZOOM. Details for accessing the Zoom meeting will be with your receipt upon registering and again sent via email the day prior. Please register in advance in order to access the program. Note that all program times are in Mountain Time.

Online classes are not recorded. Online classes are offered only as a live and interactive experience.
