Change your perspective and look at landscapes through a new lens—UP!
In this two-part online class, examine Georgia O’Keeffe’s dynamic use of shape design in her works that look toward the sky.
While this workshop consists of two parts, they are structured as two separate online events. So, to take both parts, participants will need to register for each separately. If participants would prefer to only take one of the two classes, that is also welcome. Simply register for the session you wish to join. You are welcome to take both parts of this class, or join for a single session (Part 2 will be taught to accommodate those who wish to join without having taken part 1).
Part 1 (Wednesday, August 21, 5:30 – 8:00pm MT) Consists of creating several sketches that explore various design structures that will prepare for a final painting. Students will also spend time diving into the use of color by experimenting with color schemes and possible palettes.
Part 2 (Wednesday, August 28, 5:30-8:00pm MT) Create a final work of art using the skills developed during Part 1 along with the decided composition and color palette.
Finally, if you wish to complete this course in a different media, you are welcome to use your media of choice. Instructor will be teaching with oils.
This class is appropriate for all levels, but some prior experience in oils would be helpful.

About the Instructor:
A passionate artist and experienced educator, Morgan Jones has spent the last 9 years developing these crafts. She seeks to explore how art can serve as a medium to move us both individually and communally. Her time teaching in public schools, juvenile detention, and community centers has deepened her belief that art is a fundamental means of knowing, connecting, and transforming. In addition to Fine Arts, Morgan studied Art Education at Texas State University as well as Criminal and Social Justice at the College of the Rockies in BC, Canada. Morgan’s professional painting practice focuses on plein-air landscape assemblage and multiple exposure oil paintings that call into question ideas of impermanence, memory and conservation. After spending a year living on the road, developing her art from her mobile travel trailer studio, she has settled in Santa Fe to split her time between teaching and creating.
