Description
Between 1916 and 1918, while teaching in Canyon, Texas, Georgia O’Keeffe made nearly 50 watercolors that show her committing to abstraction. Using techniques she learned from her mentor, Arthur Wesley Dow, she painted the open Texas landscape, its skies and light, and her own body. The paintings are loose and bold, and many of the ideas in them return later in her large oil paintings. This book was published by Radius Books with the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. It brings these watercolors together with drawings from the same years and text by Amy Von Lintel. It also documents the Museum’s 2016 exhibition of the work.
