Handmade Book of Life
August 13, 2009 9:30 AM - August 14, 2009 12:30 PM
Explore the powerful art of storytelling through pictures and words in a book format, and learn both the practical and the expressive use of art materials. From an overview of the history of bookmaking to a hands-on look at popular children's storybooks, explore strategies for visual communication. Family, culture, history, our personal journeys—all are themes that can be applied to each artist's book project. Artists will have time to experiment with mixed media (collage, opaque paints, watercolors, pen and ink, colored pencils) to personalize an original cover surface for their book, and with different kinds of papers for the inner pages. Bring to the workshop paper copies of family portraits, family folklore, traditional customs, and a spirit of imagination. You will be rewarded with a very personal, one-of-a-kind work of art that will be a highlight of your family library for years to come.
