Colored Pencil: Color Mixing & Storytelling with Pictures - Part 3 of 3
March 19, 2009 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Study with a professional illustrator and experiment with stories you’ve been wanting to share. Learn to plan, sketch, and create with colored pencils and other drawing media in this unique workshop. Starting with thumbnails and the brainstorming process, artists in this session will learn to push their coloring to new levels by mixing, blending, and using new materials. In three 150-minute sessions, complete one larger or a series of smaller illustrations—artists will have time to experiment with mixed media and different kinds of papers. Explore the powerful art of storytelling through pictures, and discuss in detail the decisions artists make in order to communicate. The final session is spent resolving your artworks and, if desired, preparing the art-work for publication or printing.

LED BY LELAND CHAPIN, a visual artist who was named one of “150 to Watch” in the July 2008 issue of Santa Fean magazine. His work deals with themes ranging from indigenous land rights to econom-ic and educational injustice, expressed in paintings, drawings, and performance and installation art. A teacher for the past decade, Chapin is passionate about improving people’s lives through art education.
