
The 2010 Women of Distinction Series honoree will be legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz. In a rare public appearance, Leibovitz will take the stage for a journey through some of her most famous photographs.
The event takes place March 6, 7 PM at the Lensic Performing Arts Center, 211 W. San Francisco St. in Santa Fe. Tickets for the event will go on sale to the general public on January 15, 2010, at the Lensic Box Office, online at ticketssantafe.org, or by phone at 505.988.1234.
Leibovitz was a selected in recognition for her 40 years of iconic work, which has included some of the most memorable, provocative and moving works, making her arguably the most well-known living artist in the photographic medium.
The Women of Distinction Series, established in 2007 during the Museum’s 10th Anniversary Celebration, offers the Museum the opportunity to honor O’Keeffe’s legacy of achievement through an annual event that recognizes outstanding contributions made by contemporary women to our society and culture. The Women of Distinction Series was established to honor women who, like O’Keeffe, have effectively realized themselves as women and professionals.
Past recipients of the award include: Gloria Steinem (2009), Gail Sheehy (2007), and The Honorable Ruth Bader Ginsburg (2007). Learn more >
Proceeds from the events help support the Museum’s Art and Leadership Program for Girls, an interdisciplinary program that incorporates skill building and problem solving with identity, creativity, and self-esteem, with an emphasis on art making and artist role models.
The Museum has established Friends of the Women of Distinction. Friends is a diverse group of individuals who serve as ambassadors for the series, and have fun doing this through networking events, educational programs, and social gatherings. Learn more >
