The Women of Distinction Series, established in 2007 during the Museum’s 10th Anniversary Celebration, offers the Museum the opportunity to honor O’Keeffe’s legacy of achievement through an annual event that recognizes outstanding contributions made by contemporary women to our society and culture. The Women of Distinction Series was established to honor women who, like O’Keeffe, have effectively realized themselves as women and professionals.
2009 WOMEN OF DISTINCTION SERIES EVENT
In 2009, the Museum will honor Gloria Steinem, who plays a leading role in promoting a world in which, as she has stated, “There are no roles other than those chosen or those earned.” And as O'Keeffe once stated, "All men and women stand equal under the sky,” (Georgia O’Keeffe to Eleanor Roosevelt, 1944).
The event honoring Steinem will be held on March 7, 2009 at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center. Ticket sales will help support the Museum’s Art and Leadership Program for Girls, an interdisciplinary program that incorporates skill building and problem solving with identity, creativity, and self-esteem, with an emphasis on art making and artist role models.
Tickets Santa Fe will begin selling tickets for the event on January 2, 2009.
The Museum has established Friends of the Women of Distinction. Friends is a diverse group of individuals who serve as ambassadors for the series, and have fun doing this through networking events, educational programs, and social gatherings. Membership in Friends of the Women of Distinction, with giving levels that range from $125 to $250, includes invitations to events at the Museum and its Research Center, free admission to the Museum for one year, the opportunity to purchase tickets to the Gloria Steinem event before they go on sale to the public, and recognition at the Women of Distinction events.
