Library Admission: Policies, Procedures and UsageFacilities and Hours
The catalog, research materials and collections are available for study to qualified researchers and scholars by appointment only. The Library and its archives are open weekdays (except Wednesdays and holidays) from 9 AM - noon and from 2 - 4 PM. Appointments Appointments to consult the Library and its archives are arranged in advance by contacting library@okeeffemuseum.org or 505-946-1011. Researchers must submit the application for access form in advance of their visit. While at the Research Center, researchers are required to show photo identification with current address and to sign the daily visitors’ register. Library Collections General Collections Online databases and reference resources are located in the Reference Room. Books and periodicals are located in open stacks in the Reading Room. In addition to our archival holdings, the Library has special collections, such as Georgia O’Keeffe’s Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch libraries.Special Collections and Archives A section of the Reading Room houses materials that may be examined only by arrangement with the Librarian and Assistant Director, Research Center. These restricted collections include rare books from O’Keeffe’s Ghost Ranch Library. In addition, the archives include correspondence, manuscripts, photographs, and other miscellaneous materials. General Procedures Only items considered essential research tools (e.g., pencil, paper, notebooks, laptop computers, etc.) are allowed in the Reference and Reading Rooms. Backpacks, bags (including purses), briefcases, coats, computer bags, and other such items must be stored at the Security Station. Security personnel reserve the right to inspect all belongings when anyone enters or leaves the premises.The only writing tools that may be used are pencils. The use of pens and of self-stick removable note papers is not permitted. Tracing from or annotating collections materials is not allowed.The Library is non-circulating. Materials may only be consulted in the Reading Room. They may not be removed from that area or from the premises. Smoking, eating, and drinking are not allowed. Special Collections and Archival Procedures Extraordinary care must be exercised when using materials in the library’s special collections and archives. Many items are fragile, extremely valuable, and/or irreplaceable. As a preservation measure, some original documents are available for study only in microform or as photocopies. Photocopying and Photography Requests for photocopies must be approved by the Librarian and Assistant Director, Research Center and in certain circumstances, researchers must sign a copyright disclosure statement. The Library may decline a request to photocopy materials it considers too fragile or outside the "fair use" standard. Oversized materials and those in special collections and archives may not be photocopied. No photography is allowed in the Library without written permission. Publication Requests Permission to study archival materials does not necessarily include the right to reproduce or publish their contents. Researchers using archival materials will be required to read and sign a publications agreement form. Collections Usage The researcher agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, its officers and employees, from and against all claims and actions arising out of the researcher’s use of the Library's collections.
