O’KEEFFE ART AND LEADERSHIP PROGRAM FOR GIRLS AND BOYS
Internship Information & Job OverviewThe O'Keeffe Art and Leadership Program for Girls, founded in 1998, provides adolescent girls, 11-13 years, with opportunities for independent thinking, skill-building, problem solving and the development of their artistic talents. Areas of concentration include topics on identity, creativity and self-esteem. This interactive program seeks to create a support system for girls, utilizing art-making and women artist role models, particularly Georgia O'Keeffe, to promote girls' creative abilities. Training and Program Dates: first week of June to mid-August with an average of 45 hrs per week for 10 weeks.
The O'Keeffe Art and Leadership Program for Boys, modeled after the girls program, was piloted in 2002. Created for adolescent boys, 11-13 years, the program focuses on self discovery and the exploration of creativity through art making, writing, music, and movement exercises that promote resiliency and non-violent behavior. Professional male museum staff, artists and interns lead the program and serve as role models. Training and Program Dates: second week of June to mid-August with an average of 40 hrs week for 8 weeks.
Requirements
Interest and desire to spend a challenging summer in an energetic environment with a staff dedicated to fostering creativity and resiliency in youth. Interns should have experience with age group and interest in the arts and leadership skills. Interns must be responsible and reliable with a flexible work attitude, an ability to "think on your feet" in assisting Program Coordinators, and enjoy working as a team.Some Internship Responsibilities Include:- Attend pre-program staff training including Red Cross First Aid and CPR
- General office work
- Daily maintenance of site and supplies
- Interaction with families and community
- Facilitate games, activities and discussions
- Co-lead art and leadership lessons
- Assist and participate in professional artist workshops
- Co-lead field trips, including overnights
- Prepare for final boys/girls art exhibition/reception
- Complete all evaluations and final exit interviews
Stipend
- Art and Leadership Program for Girls - $2,500 (10 weeks)
- Art and Leadership Program for Boys - $2,250 (8 weeks)

- Identify candidate's strengths and weaknesses in regards to the position requested.
- What qualities does the candidate offer the program or department?
- What will the candidate gain from an internship with the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum?
- Would the author have any reservations about employing the applicant?
